Analysis of
Make process
enablers and best practices often produce some large internal gains in supply chain
performance
(reliability, responsiveness & flexibility).
Fundamentals like
a basic finite capacity planning process are
key. In the absence of capacity planning
plants typically use MRP to determine start and
finish dates for work orders without any regard for available capacity. The cost of this approach is high with expeditors
and safety stock being the typical tools. |
It doesn’t take long for this
process to produce customer service misses. The typical result being to
extend lead-times for the manufacturing steps in MRP and consequently to the customers. This cycle not only reduces your
competitiveness, increases you assets, but it also doesn’t
fix the problem. You still have no
guarantee that you’ve not overbooked a critical resource.

This backdrop provides a good example of the
process enablers included with SCOR.
